The National CASA Association has approximately 73,000 volunteer advocates nation wide. Each year the National CASA Association produces an Annual Report and they generally have a theme. The 2004 National CASA Association Annual Report them was Reunification.
Through a series of interviews with State Association Staff, then with Local Programs like CASA of Del Norte, the National CASA Association selected 7 volunteers out of 73,000. Of those chosen to be highlighted was one of the volunteer advocates from CASA of Del Norte!
At the request of the volunteer, we have agreed not to include the name, gender or any other identifying infomation. We are, after all, a small community and it is important to maintain the confidentiality of the family involved. However, we must also note, that our volunteer is also modest and wishes not to be named or applauded for "just doing my job as a CASA".
Recently, I saw an advertisement recruiting CASA volunteer in the Medford, OR paper. The headline of the advertisement was "We are looking for a few tough softies". For me this defines our volunteer advocates well. Our advocates are well-trained, they are persistent in their invesitgation, they are caring and concerned and they are always on the alert for situations which can provide positive conversations and praise for the good behavior of children who are going through a very difficult time.
CASA of Del Norte is growing, we are looking for few "tough softies". If you are interested and would like to find out more about volunteering, please call:
707-464-3320, ask for Terri...or e-mail us at info@casadn.org (please include your name, phone number and the best time to call back.)
