CASA of Del Norte Receives National Certificate Recognizing the Quality of Its Work for Abused and Neglected Children

High Standards

Crescent City CASA of Del Norte has just been awarded certification by the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association. This certification recognizes that CASA of Del Norte meets the high standards for quality Child Advocacy set by the National CASA Association. This is the second consecutive quality certification received by the local program from the National CASA Association. Each quality certification is awarded for a period of four years.

According to Michael Piraino, CEO of the National CASA Association, The National CASA quality assurance process is very rigorous, and reflects our commitment to ensure every child we serve has the most powerful volunteer advocate working on their behalf. This certification says CASA of Del Norte has demonstrated to us a strong capacity to provide excellent services to the children served within their community.

Local Impact CASA volunteer advocate and current board member, Lynn Holmes says, Each child is very special and when they are caught up in the juvenile dependency system through no fault of their own, it is important to stand up for them. CASA of Del Norte has been serving the children of our county since February 2002.

Currently, CASA of Del Norte volunteer advocates serve 41 children. There are as many as 120 children in the county who are waiting for a CASA volunteer advocate. As designated by the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors, this is the Year of the Child. As a Volunteer Advocate and supporter of CASA of Del Norte you have the opportunity to advocate for a child in court, in school, and in their life.

You can make a difference, one child at a time.

Recruitment of volunteers is an on-going process. Our volunteers are every-day extraordinary people who have decided that time spent with a child, to ensure the best possible outcome, is what they can do. Our hope is to increase the positive marks we, as a community, make on each child, says Susie Minx, Executive Director of CASA of Del Norte.
